Miracle Grip® Denture Adhesive Seal
Most denture adhesive products on the market contain a water soluble polymer dispersed in mineral oil or petrolatum. The adhesive is measured onto the denture which is then affixed to the gums. Saliva gradually hydrates the polymer which becomes sticky, creating an adhesive. These products often have an oily taste, a gritty sensation in the mouth, and commonly ooze out of the denture into the wearer's mouth. Those of us who have used these adhesives know that this is an unpleasant experience. Before Miracle Grip, alternatives came in the form of powders, liquids, or coated fabric.
Miracle Grip® provides an alternative to existing products. It is a denture seal manufactured with a combination of water soluble polymers in a paper-thin film which is then die cut into two designs: one suitable for the upper denture and the other suitable for the lower denture. The film seal is placed on the denture and moistened with ordinary tap water, and then the denture is pressed into place. The moistening process makes the film become pliable and very tacky. Miracle Grip® forms a seal between the gum and denture for long lasting hold which is equal or superior to existing products. The Miracle Grip® film seal has no taste, requires no measuring and does not have the greasiness or grittiness of other products. The film seal provides effective, long lasting hold, improved biting force, ease of removal and cleaning (because it is water soluble and not oil based), prevents discomfort caused by entrapped food particles and has no effect on the denture position (vertical dimension) in the mouth, which you'll find to be a primary concern amongst denture professionals. Customers say it's the easiest product to clean after use in the market.
Miracle Grip® was clinically tested at a leading dental research institution in California. The results were nothing short of outstanding. From a safety point of view, none of the denture wearers showed any evidence of irritation due to the product. This is not surprising since all the ingredients are either food grade or pharmaceutical grade. From a performance point of view, the results were also excellent. Retention and stability measurements were improved in almost every instance. In the case of tight fitting dentures, Miracle Grip® created no degradation of fit. There was no alteration of vertical dimension or denture midline. The results also show that the adhesive film hydrates quickly, providing a good seal with long lasting hold.
The Miracle Grip® product has been evaluated by the United States Food and Drug Administration as an equivalent medical device as a result of 510(k) submission in 1994 and thus U.S. Medical Systems is authorized to market the product.
